With the second hangar now open and fully operational we are looking towards the next stage in the development of the GHC. We have a large collection of airworthy gliders which need to be maintained and others which require major restoration. We also want to keep alive the knowledge and skills that are involved in working on vintage gliders by training inspectors and private owners. Unless we do something this vital aspect of our gliding heritage is in danger of being lost. To achieve these aims we plan to construct a fully equipped modern workshop.

The planned layout of the workshop is illustrated below. As we did with the two hangars, we plan to use an industrial building as the shell and to minimise the cost by doing much of the work ourselves. This includes preparing the site, building the foundations, laying the floor, constructing the internal rooms and fitting the equipment. The workshop will be our most ambitious project to date as the building will need to meet all the appropriate building regulations as well as satisfying health and safety requirements. The building itself will cost about 100k before kitting out, and once the fund has reached 70k we expect to start with the actual construction of the shell. The second step will be to add the equipment such as heating, ventilation, dust extractions and machine tools. We will do this as and when the funds become available.

The workshop will be a national resource for the vintage gliding community and a place where visitors can see work underway and learn about the construction of vintage gliders. The future development of the Gliding Heritage Centre is dependent on grants, donations and gifts. If you would like to help develop the GHC and safeguard its future you may like to consider including a legacy in your will. The GHC is a charity so a gift of this kind is exempt from tax. A legacy can take a number of different forms and you can, if you wish, specify how the money should be spent. The details of the GHC are:
